Wasn’t there a dance from Trinidad called the Limbo? I think you had to dance knees and belly forward under a bar and not dislodge it. Given the political situation we are being swung around in and inundated by daily, I feel I am in limbo. Passing under the bar successfully is getting harder and harder. It takes a special kind of strength. Still going belly up on the floor and giving in to despair is not an option. I am going to practice some old-time wisdoms and see how that helps.

The first old-time wisdom that comes to mind is “One Day at a Time.” No old regrets and no future “what if’s”. We’ll just show up today in whatever way we can.
Second old-time wisdom: “Do whatever you can do and be glad you can still do it today.” That will keep us humble.
Third old-time wisdom. This one is good for a lifetime. “find at least one thing today to be grateful for.”
Fourth old-time wisdom is one we all know. “Any time you want to feel better, give support and help to someone or something in your day.”
This fifth old-time wisdom takes continual practice. “Accept that Love is somehow always present even if you don’t feel it”. Let’s remember that what we keep in focus GROWS.
Here’s the sixth old-time wisdom This one should never be ignored. “Get a good night’s sleep!!!”
Number seven is common sense like number six. “A long hot shower can fix more than we know.”
Here’s number eight: “If you can’t run, plod. It’s slower but we’ll get there.” Left foot, right foot.
Here’s number nine and I think all of us can use this one. “When cravings come, stop and say thank you for all you already have. More is not going to do it.” Besides to stop for a minute is always good for many things.
Number 10 is reassuring to me. “Some things are up to us, but a lot is done without us.”
Here’s number 11. It’s one to promise yourself to heed when you wake up in the morning. “It’s far better to foster than to force.” The results will surely prove that one.
Could the sages be right? ‘What you gaze at gazes back”. Then to always gaze with kindness is the way to go.
When I was in a hurry and felt burdened by it all I had to get done, my kids said that I would become “executive” and snappy. In those moments the tasks were more important than my kids. Relationships and tasks both take time, don’t they? But the old-time wisdom says, “Lead with your heart. You won’t regret it.”
We aren’t human doings, but we forget that glued to our lists, our phones and computers. Here’s what the old-time wisdom says, “There is no one like you. Treasure the sacred permission to BE. No one can do that job but you, and your sweet essence is what is needed and called for.”
