We know about February thaw when the temperature climbs for a little while and the snow melts. I’d like to think February-melt is about kindness, embracing it in our lives as a way to be and to melt any harshness in us and around us.

I have a friend who shared that someone told her in a kindly way that “she was not God’s only resource.” It made me smile thinking of how earnest we all sometime get. Here’s a quote from yours truly, too. “Tucked into our nighttime sheets we can take the time to let go. Letting go is a basic kindness for our souls . . . Everything isn’t up to us.”
I think practicing kindness is ultimately political and something we, as grassroot beings, can do in these harsh times. In my book Great Love in Little Ways, I have some kindness saying I want to share. I hope we can keep our spirits up and fill our circumstances with the power of kindness. Here is one of the sayings: “Hearing the deep cry of the world, kindness gathers our tears.”
Here’s Friday’s kindness quote. “We can be sure that when we look for kindness, it is looking for us, too.”
Here’s one I particularly like: “Kindness is the friend that knows the truth about us and gives us back to ourselves.” That’s a soul-hug for sure.
“Kindness has a way of walking in everybody’s shoes.” What would we do without it?
It’s lovely to share these little sayings written a long time ago and published in Great Love in Little Ways. Here’s one: “Kindness wears no watch and has all the time in the world.” If you are interested, the book is available on Amazon or can be ordered at your local bookstore.

With this saying I had in mind one of those small, red wagons with a handle that kids sometimes play with. I think you know the one I mean. “Even with the tiniest of wagons kindness can carry a big load.”
Our collective kindness is very much needed as darkness sweeps over us each time we hear more difficult news. Here is encouragement for each of us to do our part. “With ears to the ground, kindness counts the steps we have taken to mend the ache of the world.”
I don’t know about you, but I have experienced how forgiveness is key to moving into more grace and possibility. Here’s another one from Great Love in Little Ways: “To forgive another is the kindness we give to ourselves.”
We look into a mirror at least once a day. Sometimes those moments are moments of truth. “In the mirror of kindness, we can bear to see all of ourselves, inside and out, even what we do not like.”
I love kaleidoscopes and one inspired me to write this. “In the kaleidoscope of kindness when things fall apart, the pieces are the same, but the pattern is new.”
Deep down we probably know this, but it is good to be reminded. “To be kind to our selves starts a revolution not a war. It makes peace with more thigs than we can fathom.” These kindness quotes are from my book, Great Love in Little Ways, Reflections on the Power of Kindness.
