Good Quotes

Good quotes can be so nourishing. If we memorize some of them they can come in very handy when life is turbulent and difficult.

“Gratitude is the confidence in life itself. In it, we feel how the same force that pushes grass through cracks in the sidewalk invigorates our own life.” — Jack Kornfield

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” —Rumi

“Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.” — Eckhart Tolle

“The quieter you become, the more you hear.” — Ram Das

“It is only when there is no goal and no rush that the human senses are fully open to receive the world.” — Alan Watts

“Listen to the wind, it talks. Listen to the silence, it speaks. Listen to your heart, it knows.”  — Native American Proverb

Here are two small, pithy quotes from Per Alias Amidon:

“A hard time is coming. Do something beautiful.”

“The only refuge from the hurt of the world is to hold it in your embrace.”

This quote by Meister Eckhart is loved and famous. I like to return to it often: “If the only prayer you say in your entire life is ‘Thank you,’ that will suffice.”

Another quote from Meister Eckhart that I keep close to my heart: “This I know, that the only way to live is like the rose which lives without a why.”

“There is no way to be sufficiently grateful for the gifts we have been given.” — Mary Oliver

Here’s another quote by Pir Elias Amidon. It’s hard to think this is enough when the world is so dark and full of violence and terror. But I do want to believe it to be true. “Simply be kindhearted and your life will be worthwhile.”

How many of us are willing to do what Joseph Campbell advises in this quote? “We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
